State of the Club

Hi all, El Presidente Brendan here.  Just posting to let everyone know that the club is in fact still alive.  I’ll be editing a bit of the information so that it’s in line with current situations.

The main thing I’d like to tell everyone is that our monthly screenings at the moment aren’t happening.  We’re having issues sorting out a venue.  We also may need at some point soon, to look into getting the club a projector.

Seconly, regular screenings are still being held weekly, at USQ, every Wednesday between 12pm and 2pm.  Currently they are being held in R113, but due to construction we’re probably going to have to move soon T113.  If you have any suggestions or preferences please either add them as a comment to this news post, or send me an email.

The club is still alive and kicking, though I’m aware we don’t have many events, if anyone would like to suggest events leave a comment or send me an email.  We have a few prizes yet to be given away through competitions and fundraisers, we’ve just not had the opportunity to get anything started.

Finally I’d like to pimp out our other sites.  We have a Yahoo Group mailing list, as well as a Facebook Group for those of you who’re on Facebook.

Currently we’re in negotiations with Kaboom Comics for a potential discount for ATA members who order anime and manga through them, as well as the possibility of a social Magic: The Gathering night every now and then.  Which has nothing really to do with anime, it’s just cool.

So, in short, feel free to use the forum for whatever, we’ll be performing a few updates around the place.

And just to reiterate what was said earlier: IF YOU WERE SIGNED UP BEFOREHAND, YOU NEED TO SIGN UP AGAIN.  DO NOT USE THE SAME PASSWORD AS BEFORE, THERE WAS A VIRUS WHICH MAY HAVE YOUR OLD DETAILS.

IMPORTANT – Site replaced. All users must re-register !

While moving the site to a new web server I noticed some odd base64_encoded command was inserted into the php of the site. Further investigation revealed that some sort of virus or worm had infected the site and inserted itself into every file of of the site, indicating it had compromised the webhosting account for that site. I was not able to determine the worm’s purpose because it had base64 encoding layered over and over the code, making it unreasonably difficult to decode the code used. As a result I’ve reinstalled the site from scratch with the latest version of the software and I have NOT migrated the old user accounts or posts because I can’t be sure how the site was infected, either by a compromised admin account, or by a vulnerability in wordpress. Unfortunately this means that we’ve lost all user accounts, and all previous forum and blog posts. I’m really sorry about this guys. I tried to restore the posts, but the database format had changed too much between versions and attempts to upgrade the old databases failed.

So here we go. A fresh start. Just pretend it’s new years or something, I dunno. Sorry about the inconvenience guys and most importantly DO NOT SIGN UP WITH YOUR OLD PASSWORD. It is likely that the worm obtained everyone’s login credentials to the site, so DO NOT sign up with the same password you used previously. OK ? That’s important !
